MY REVIEW OF ALLERGY FRIENDLY SUSTAINABLE UNDERWEAR FROM JULIEMAY

Bras and other intimates come in close contact with our skin. If you have sensitive skin, some of the metals and dyes/chemicals used to make bras and underwear can cause irritation. In this blog post, I share my review of JulieMay's sustainable and allergy-friendly underwear.

About JULIEMAY

JulieMay is an allergy-friendly and sustainable lingerie brand. Their underwear and bras are comfortable, beautiful, non-irritating, and eco-friendly. JulieMay believes that undergarments should look good and feel good and do good for the environment.

JulieMay stands out to me because it is a brand that caters to sensitive skin but still offers stylish lingerie. Unlike many other brands offering plain, more -basic options for those with allergies or irritations, JulieMay demonstrates that combining luxury while catering to sensitive skin is possible. They use natural and organic materials like silk and Pima cotton to ensure breathability and gentleness on the skin while also avoiding harmful chemicals and metals that trigger allergies and irritations.

What makes JulieMay allergy friendly

As someone with sensitive skin, I am pleased to see allergy-free intimate options. I generally stay away from any lacy bras because they are always itchy, but JulieMay has non-itchy ones. JulieMay's underwear and bras are guaranteed allergy-free by Allergy UK, a national charity that provides resources and information to people with allergies and intolerances. It also offers certification for allergy-friendly products. To receive this certification, fabrics used for garments are scientifically tested fabrics to prove that they are hypoallergenic.

Here are some of the key features that make JulieMay products allergy-friendly:

  • They are tagless with seams sewn inside to avoid skin irritation from stitched tags or rough edges touching your skin.

  •  They use organic silk and Pima cotton, which are both hypoallergenic fabrics.

  • They are nickel-free; nickel is a common allergen that can trigger contact dermatitis. The hooks, adjusters, and wires on their bras are made from quality acrylic plastics instead of nickel.

  • They are free of chemicals like formaldehyde that can cause contact dermatitis.

JulieMay is an ethical and eco-friendly brand. JulieMay's products are made from natural and biodegradable fabrics like organic Pima cotton and pure silk. These fibers are grown without harmful pesticides or fertilizers. JulieMay sources all their organic cotton and silk from suppliers who are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. These certifications guarantee that the entire supply chain of their garments meets rigorous environmental and social responsibility standards.

In addition, JulieMay’s production process is both water and energy-efficient. They use eco-friendly dyes that are free from harmful chemicals and substances. Furthermore, they use recyclable packaging made from recycled paper and cardboard and encourage customers to reuse or recycle them.

JulieMay's products are handmade ethically at their exclusive factory in Hong Kong, which is ISO-certified, meaning that all workers receive fair wages and work under favorable working conditions.

sIZING AND VARIETY

JulieMay has an impressive selection of bras and underwear. They offer a variety of styles, from solid colors to lacy and embroidered designs. I also like that their website features a diverse range of models; I value inclusion and diversity and prefer to support brands with similar values.

JulieMay has non-wired, wired sports bras, bralettes, post-surgery bras and front-fastening bras. JulieMay's underwear collection includes silk and organic cotton briefs. While their bra sizes range from US size 4 to 16, with cup sizes ranging from 32B to 40G and 42DD, their underwear sizes are limited and do not include plus sizes or smaller sizes. However, as the brand continues to grow, we hope to see more sizing options. Overall, JulieMay is a great choice for those looking for sustainable and stylish undergarments.

MY REVIEW OF JULIEMAY

JulieMay kindly sent me four pieces for an honest, non-biased review. I was impressed with the designs and the softness of the fabric. Let's dive a little deeper into what I liked about them.

recyclable packaging

The pieces came without plastic packaging. As a sustainable fashion advocate, I'm always thrilled to see brands taking steps to minimize their plastic usage. JulieMay minimizes plastic in its products and packaging. This is commendable, especially in an industry that is dominated by synthetic fabrics. Many bras these days are made from polyester and other synthetic fabrics. I love that even their paper tags are attached with string rather than the typical plastic ones. The only plastic included is the hygienic protective layer for the underwear, which is totally understandable. Overall, I'm impressed with the thought and effort that JulieMay puts into sustainable packaging and labels.

The Full Cup Front Closure silk and organic cotton bra.

I received this organic cotton cocoa-colored bra as a gift. I selected it because I wanted a bra that matches my skin tone, but it is also designed for individuals who have undergone a mastectomy and for use as a sports bra. The front closure with non-metallic buttons makes it incredibly easy to put on and take off.

Additionally, this bra is comfortable. I love that the bra cup is silk-lined, something I haven't seen in many other bras. It adds a lovely touch of luxury and thoughtful comfort.

The straps are double-lined with Pima cotton, which is more comfortable for sensitive skin. Pima cotton is super soft, unlike synthetic fabrics that can irritate the skin. Overall, I am happy with this bra and recommend it to anyone seeking a comfortable and versatile one.

Lace Organic Cotton and Silk Bralette

This bralette features a keyhole design in the front that adds a touch of sexiness. The bra is made of organic cotton and silk cup that feels soft and smooth on your skin and has lace trimmings that are not itchy. The bra also comes in black and red; I chose black. This bra is perfect for everyday wear because it's comfortable or for special occasions because it's pretty.
